fictive 70S model

fiktive model of a 70S ribosome

This image was made for a german newspaper article about protein folding, 'FAZ am Sonntag' (5.Mai 2002). The 70S model shown is built from our 30S (RNA darkgrey, proteins skyblue) and 50S (RNA white and lightgrey, proteins lightgreen) subunits, by using the overall arrangement of the 70S low resolution model by Nollers group (PDB id ####). A-, P- and E-site tRNA (darkblue, purple and green) are docked, as well as a fiktive mRNA-chain (red) and a fiktive, growing polypetide chain (orange).
The L1 arm on the right side has a conformation, wich is correlated to a leaving (or 'just left') E-site tRNA.

This model is made for illustration, it shows no direct scientific result. The view of some details may differ a bit from scientific findings.
